From 2023, Commonwealth funding for government schools is at least 20 per cent of the Schooling Resource Standard (SRS) by 2023, increasing from an average of 17.5 per cent in 2018. The rest of a government school’s funding comes from their state or territory government and includes some private contributions. For more information go to the My School website.


The Commonwealth is the majority funder of Catholic and independent schools and from 2023 its funding will be at least 80 per cent of the SRS for those schools.


Each state and territory have committed to meet their share of the SRS for both the government and non-government sector under bilateral agreements with the Commonwealth. These agreements form part of the National School Reform Agreement. For more information go to National School Reform Agreement.
